2010 Stanley Cup Odds

The NHL regular season is over and the playoffs begin Wednesday. The Washington Capitals are the favorite as they look for the first Cup in franchise history. Here are the updated title odds at BroburySports.com.

Washington Capitals (+400)

Preseason odds: (+1000). Washington easily had the best record in the league at 121 points. Superstar Alex Ovechkin finished tied for second in the NHL in points behind Vancouver’s Henrik Sedin, but played many less games. The one lingering question is the goaltending by committee, which needs to get straightened out in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Penguins (+500)

Preseason odds: (+600). The defending champs are looking for the first back-to-back titles since Detroit in 1998. The Pens still have the talent, but they lost the Atlantic Division to New Jersey and have to open up against Ottawa as a fourth seed.

San Jose Sharks (+500)

Preseason odds: (+600). San Jose scored 113 points in the regular season, the most in the Western Conference. The Sharks have underachieved in the playoffs, losing in the first round last year to Anaheim. Can Joe Thornton and company finally come through and peak at the right time?

Chicago Blackhawks (+500)

Preseason odds: (+700). The Blackhawks have captured the imagination of the city, who loves to back their championship caliber teams. This is a balanced squad that was third in the league in scoring and fifth in defense. Their goal differential was second in the NHL behind Washington.

Detroit Red Wings (+600)

Preseason odds: (+500). Detroit won the Cup two years ago, losing in the finals last year to Pittsburgh. The Red Wings started out slowly this year, but this group is playing very well right now. They will give Phoenix everything they can handle in the first round as a fifth seed.

New Jersey Devils (+1000)

Preseason odds: (+2500). New Jersey had a 32-11-1 record at one point. They finished the season going 16-16-6, but did hold on in the Atlantic. The addition of Ilya Kovalchuk from Atlanta has helped the offense some, and they’re dangerous in any series with the legendary Martin Brodeur in goal.

Our Pick Take the Detroit Red Wings
