Mourinho could risk playing Ronaldo despite injury
Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho may play Cristiano Ronaldo in his team’s Champions League quarter final against Tottenham, despite the player struggling with a hamstring strain.
‘The Special One’ announced on Friday that Ronaldo, along with Gonzalo Higuain and Marcelo, would miss the game on Tuesday, but Mourinho has now admitted that he may risk playing the Portuguese attacker, if the player agrees.
Ronaldo limped off in Los Blancos 2-1 win in La Liga against Atletico, and it has been reported that the player is doing all he can to be fit in time for the visit of the English side.
Madrid lost suprisingly 1-0 at home against Sporting Gijon on Saturday, and after the game Mourinho told reporters: “If he has a chance it’s because he and his coach are taking a risk, because the information from the medical department is that he can’t play, that he can only play in the game in Bilbao (next weekend).”
“But if the two of us and only the two of us decide that he’s going to play then the risk is mine and his. “Tomorrow I will talk with the injured players and decide if we will risk them,” the coach added.
Ronaldo is a key man for the Bernabeu club, and has scored a staggering 38 goals in 42 appearances for the club this season.
