NBA Picks: Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Clippers Preview 4/13/11
In the final game of the NBA betting campaign in the regular season, ESPN will be televising the duel between the Memphis Grizzlies (46-35) and the Los Angeles Clippers (31-50).
You can bet that the Grizz are going to be scoreboard watching before they ever hit the floor for pregame warm-ups in Tinseltown. Should the New Orleans Hornets pick up a victory in the first nationally televised game of the night, there will be no need for Memphis to try in this one. It would already know that it would be heading to the Lone Star State to face the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs as the No. 8 seed. A loss by New Orleans though, would leave the door open to move up to No. 7. We’re not so sure how much of a difference it’ll make one way or the other, especially knowing that Rudy Gay is already out of the fold for the season. Still, with starters probably not playing much, if at all, the door will swing open for youngsters like Xavier Henry and Greivis Vasquez to shine. These two men have only averaged right around a dozen minutes per game this year, and they have averaged right around eight points per game between them, but you can bet that both will be playing extensive minutes in this one on Wednesday. As we saw in college, both of these men can score at will, so the Grizzlies might be finding some budding stars thanks to this last game of the year.
It’s hard to think that a 31 win season could really be considered a success, but we have to remember that these, alas, are still the Clippers. Eric Bledsoe is a question mark for this one with an ankle injury, but if the 99-78 loss at the Houston Rockets four nights ago was any indicator, the rest of this team is questionable as well for tonight. The good news for LA is that it did beat these Grizzlies on the road just over a week ago, winning an ugly 82-81 slugfest. Even then, the Clippers needed a wild 23-13 fourth quarter to pull off the upset. Blake Griffin looks like he has slowed down dramatically from the start of his season, and the team did turn the ball over 18 times in that win over the Grizz. Unless there is a significant shift coming, we would bet that Memphis would be able to hold on to that nine point lead that it had coming into the fourth quarter of that game.
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Clippers Pick: The NBA odds should be interesting in this one when they are released, as the argument could be made that the Clippers should be favored. We’re just not so sure that it’s going to matter what guys are on the court for the Grizzlies. We think that the youngsters can do a fine job as well, and if that’s the case, without knowing what the NBA betting lines are, we have to stick with what we know, and that’s the Grizzlies.
