Starting Pitchers- Braves (Beachy) vs. Dodgers (Kuroda)

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves both entered this series with a 7-9 mark, but it was the Dodgers who got the series started with a 4-2 win. Ted Lilly pitched seven shutout innings to get the Dodgers back on the right track. Jonathan Broxton was shaky in the ninth inning, but he did eventually nail down the victory. The Braves have been a disappointment so far this year, and they have already fallen to four games back of the Phillies in the NL East. Can Atlanta get it together in this Tuesday night matchup?

Brandon Beachy will be on the mound for the Braves in this one. Beachy is just 24 years of age, and he has struggled with his control in his last couple starts. The Braves are high on him, but it remains to be seen if he is really ready to be a solid starting pitcher in the majors at this point. Brian McCann has been hitting the ball very well, but many of the Atlanta regulars are struggling this year. Only McCann and Chipper Jones are batting better than .250 this year, so there are definitely plenty of guys having a difficult time at the plate. Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla need to get going in the middle of the order for this Braves team to be a real threat in the NL East.

Hiroki Kuroda was very good in his first two starts this year, but he allowed six runs in just five innings in his last start against St. Louis. Matt Kemp has been superb for the Dodgers so far this year. Kemp has an on-base percentage of .529, and he has already swiped eight bases. The Dodgers have hit just nine home runs so far this year, and they seem to be lacking a true power hitter in the middle of the order. There are questions at the back end of the bullpen for Los Angeles. The Dodgers have the potential to be a surprise team in the west, but they have some issues that must be cleared up.

The Braves haven’t been a good road team at all the last couple years. I give the edge to the Dodgers against a young starter for the Braves.
