Barcelona 1 Real Madrid 1: Catalan club through to final
Barcelona and Real Madrid played out a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals at the Camp Nou to give the home side a place in the final at Wembley.
Pedro put Pep Guardiola’s side into the lead, converting after a pinpoint pass from Andres Iniesta, but Madrid equalised soon after, with Brazilian left back Marcelo getting the goal.
The result means that the Blaugrana won the tie 3-1 on aggregate and will now take on either Manchester United or Schalke in the final, with that tie to be decided on Wednesday night.
After the game Real Madrid players and coach Jose Mourinho have made compaints that Barca are always on the right side of the referee and receive preferential treatment. Los Blancos striker Gonzalo Higuain had a goal disallowed early in the second half, which Madrid staff feel should have been allowed.
“Millions of people saw the goal. There is no need to say any more on it,” assistant coach Aitor Karanka said after the game.
“We would’ve been back in the tie if the goal hadn’t been annulled. That was enough to change everything. I have not seen it again live but everyone says that it was legal,” he added.
Meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo also had a sour taste in his mouth after the game.
“There are lots of things together. What happened at the Bernabeu, what happened today, these are things to think about. Barcelona have a great team but there’s something behind it. It was hard to play with 10-men after our red card against Barcelona, and it was hard to play with the goal disallowed today.” the Portuguese attacker commented.
Real Madrid’s season looks all but over now as they are eliminated from Europe and are eight points adrift of Barca at the top of the La Liga table with four games remaining.
