NBA Finals Pick: Mavericks vs. Heat Game Two
Game Two Betting Lines
NBA Betting Favorite: Heat -4.5
The Dallas Mavericks held a halftime lead in Game One of the NBA Finals, but it was the Miami Heat who dominated from the midpoint of the third quarter through the end of the game. One of the biggest concerns for Mavericks fans has to be the health of Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki suffered a torn tendon in his left hand. While it is his non-shooting hand, this is the type of injury that could certainly hamper his ability to dribble, pass, and catch the basketball. In order to win this series, Dallas will absolutely have to have Dirk at his best. Can the Mavericks steal Game Two in Miami?
The Mavericks were outrebounded by ten in Game One, and they can’t afford to let that continue to happen if they want to win this series. Another problem was the fact that their bench was outscored by the Heat bench. Bench play is an area where Dallas must have the advantage going forward. Shawn Marion had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the opener. Dirk Nowitzki didn’t play badly, but he wasn’t dominant and the Heat did successfully slow him down. Tyson Chandler grabbed just four rebounds in the opener, and he must assert himself as a force on the glass in this second game.
The Miami Heat got a big contribution from a bunch of guys on Tuesday night. LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh were all very good. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that those three played well. The bigger surprise was the terrific play of guys like Mike Miller, Mario Chalmers, and Udonis Haslem. Haslem has proven to be an important piece to the puzzle for the Miami Heat since he returned to the lineup just five games ago. The Heat knocked down 11 of their 24 three-point attempts in Game One. If Miami is hitting from beyond the arc in that manner it is hard to imagine them losing. While most will look at the points for James and Wade, the fact that the two of them combined for 19 rebounds on Tuesday night was crucial. If Miami plays as well as they did in Game One, they will be very tough to beat.
It’s difficult to pick against the Heat at this juncture. This team that struggled to close all year long has been finishing stronger than ever in the playoffs. Nowitzki’s injury is liable to bother him, and I think Miami wins and covers the spread.
