MLB Pick: Braves vs. Mets

Atlanta Braves (32-27) vs. New York Mets (27-31) MLB Betting Lines

Moneyline: Braves (-128) Mets (+118)

Over/Under: 7

Starting Pitchers: Braves (Hudson) vs. Mets (Dickey)

The Atlanta Braves took the first game of this three-game set with a big offensive output in the eighth and ninth innings, but it was the Mets turn to blow open a tie game with a five run eighth inning on Saturday night. The rubber match of this three-game series will be played Sunday night in New York. This game will be telecast on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Tim Hudson will be on the mound for the Braves Sunday night. Hudson hasn’t been nearly as sharp this year as he was last. Hudson comes into this game with a 4-4 record and an ERA of 3.75 in 2011. Hudson has fared well against the Mets in his career. The Braves are 5-1 in his last 6 starts against the Mets. The Braves offense had been improving of late, but they are beginning to fall victim to the injury bug in the last week or two. Jason Heyward and Nate McLouth are on the disabled list. Jordan Schafer, who is playing in place of McLouth, was injured in Friday night’s game. Chipper Jones is expected to sit out Sunday night’s game to get some much-needed rest.

R.A. Dickey was terrific for the Mets last year, but this year has been a bit of a struggle. He is one of only two knuckleball pitchers in the major leagues right now. Dickey is 0-5 with a 5.40 ERA at home so far this year. Jose Reyes has been scorching hot over the last couple weeks, and he is really helping the Mets stay afloat. Reyes is hitting .335 for the season and he has a nine-game hitting streak. Daniel Murphy has been the hitting star that no one expected. He continues to produce at a high level. If the Mets are going to make a run, they will certainly need Jason Bay to pick it up. Bay is hitting a miserable .216 so far in 2011.

Both teams are short-handed offensively in this one, and I think the under is a solid play here. I think this could turn into a pitcher’s duel.
