Wimbledon Free Picks: Marion Bartoli vs. Sabine Lisicki Pick
There aren’t all that many women that can say that they have been quarterfinalists in two of the Grand Slam events this year. Marion Bartoli is one of the bunch, and she is going to try to move on to the semifinals of Wimbledon betting festivities on Tuesday afternoon at the All England Club against her German foe, Sabine Lisicki.
Bartoli came up just short in Paris, dropping out in the semifinals of the French Open. She has remained in fine form and is seeking another tremendous run in this, her fourth ever Grand Slam quarterfinals appearance. Bartoli made it to the finale here at Wimbledon in 2007, only to lose in the finale, and since that point, that semifinals appearance at the French Open was her best result in a Grand Slam event. Save for an easy opening round performance against Kristyna Pliskova, it has been a hard, hard route for Bartoli to make it to the quarterfinals in England. She had to outlast a pair of three set wins against Lourdes Dominguez Lino and No. 21 Flavia Pennetta, and the latter was a tremendous match at 5-7, 6-4, 9-7. However, the biggest scalp of the tournament for Bartoli was clearly that of Serena Williams on Monday. She won the match 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), and that tiebreaker victory was a stunning accomplishment and one of the biggest victories in the Frenchwoman’s career.
We haven’t heard a whole heck of a lot from Lisicki over the course of the last few seasons, but this isn’t exactly uncharted territory for her. She was a shocking quarterfinalist at Wimbledon in 2009, and now, she is back, marking just the second time in her 12 Grand Slam events in which she even lasted into the first weekend of a major championship. Though Lisicki hasn’t run up against man ranked opponents, the one that she has faced was remarkable. She outlasted French Open winner, Na Li 3-6, 6-4, 8-6 in the second round of this event. Aside from that, she hasn’t ended up dropping a set in this championship. However, this is a woman that has played a whole heck of a lot of tennis over the last few days. She is now in the third round of the ladies’ doubles tournament as well, and she and partner Samantha Stosur have already ousted the top seeds in that bracket as well. In the fourth round of this event, Lisicki continued her fantastic play by taking care of Petra Cetkovska 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
There is definitely a question whether Lisicki should be even remotely close to being favored in this match on the Wimbledon odds. However, we have learned that the woman’s bracket is absolutely wide open, and the plethora of upsets is about to continue. Bartoli just hasn’t been able to finish the deal in her career. She won’t be able to get the job done in this one either. Take Lisicki -105.
