The Los Angeles Angels will try and bounce back from a walk-off loss to the Cleveland Indians last night, when the two resume their current three-game series with Game 2 tonight at Progressive Field. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. (ET) and the game will be available on MLB TV.

Los Angeles could not hold a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth and lost 3-2 as a 126 road favorite. It dropped the Angels to 55-48 on the year and leaves them four games in back of Texas in the AL West. They are 28-23 at home this season and 27-25 on the road.

The breakdown in pitching last night was a bit of a surprise for a staff that has the best ERA in the American League at 3.34, although the lack of run support did not help the Angels’ cause as well. Tonight they will send Jared Weaver to the mound to try and even things up. He is having an excellent season with an overall record of 13-4 and an ERA of just 1.81. Weaver is 4-2 against the Indians lifetime with a 3.64 ERA.

Cleveland’s walk-off win snapped a four-game losing streak and improved its record since the All-Star break to 5-6. The Indians are 52-48 overall and one game in back of Detroit in the AL Central. They are 24-28 on the road and 28-20 at home.

Scoring has been a concern for this team as of late as the lineup has only produced an average of 2.2 runs in its last five games as opposed to a season average of 4.30. The Indians will go with Josh Tomlin as their starter for this one. He has not been at his best over the past few outings, giving up 12 earned runs in his last 17 innings pitched. Tomlin is 11-4 on the year with a 4.12 ERA in 20 previous starts.

Head-to-head this season, the Angels are 4-3 overall but six of those games were played in LA. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of the seven games.

Weaver gives Los Angeles an excellent chance to even this series at a game apiece as Cleveland’s recent struggles at the plate continue against the Angels ‘ace’.
