MLB Betting Previews – Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Francisco Giants
San Francisco -160
The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants meet tonight at AT&T Park in the second of a crucial three-game showdown with first-place in the NL West on the line. Game time is set for 10:15 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on MLB TV.
Arizona struck first in this series on Monday night with a five-run fifth inning that led to a 5-2 victory as a 124 road underdog. The win moved the Diamondbacks within one game of the Giants in the division and raised their record overall to 60-49. They are 29-23 at home this season and 31-26 on the road.
The power in this Arizona lineup is starting to produce runs on a much more consistent basis, which in turn has led to an 11-6 record since the All-Star break. The D-Backs are now ranked third in the NL in scoring with 497 runs.
Daniel Hudson is expected to get the start tonight for Arizona. He is 10-7 on the year with a 3.81 ERA. He got roughed-up a bit in his last two outings, giving up nine earned runs on 17 hits in 12.1 innings of work. Hudson is 2-2 against the Giants with an ERA of 3.38.
San Francisco came into this series looking to bounce back from a three-game weekend sweep at the hands of the Reds. Monday’s loss was the Giants’ sixth in their last 10 and fourth straight. They are now 61-48 on the year, 29-29 on the road and 32-19 at home.
Despite making a few moves before the trade deadline to add some offense to the lineup, San Francisco will still live or die behind its pitching. The Giants are currently ranked second in the NL with a team ERA of 3.16. Fortunately, they will have Tim Lincecum on the mound tonight to try and curtail their recent skid. His overall record this season is a modest 9-8, but he is sporting a 2.78 ERA in 22 total starts. Last Thursday against the Phillies, Lincecum gave up no earned runs and just three hits in six innings. He is 7-2 against the Diamondbacks lifetime with a 2.42 ERA.
Head-to-head this season, the Giants have won seven of 10 games overall and are 3-1 at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ seven times overall and in three of the four games at AT&T Park.
Stick with the season trends in this one as Lincecum and the Giants even things up in a game that once again stays ‘under’ the total.
