2011 NFL Win Total Picks and Previews
2011 NFC Regular Season Win Total Odds
With the NFL back in business, it is time to get ready for the 2011 regular season which gets underway in just six short weeks from this Thursday. One of the most popular ‘prop’ bets for the NFL is playing the ‘over/under’ on team’s projected win totals for the season. The following is a brief look at all 16 teams in the NFC along with a prediction for each.
NFC 2011 Win Total Projections
NFC EAST
New York Giants: 9.5 (Over -105, Under -115)
The Giants have only failed to win less than 10 games twice in the last five seasons and both those years they finished 8-8. The roster remains strong enough to make another run at 10 wins- OVER
Dallas Cowboys: 9 (Under -120)
The East has suddenly become a much tougher place to do business and the Cowboys may actually be going in the wrong direction with a blood-letting of talent from the team-UNDER
Philadelphia Eagles: 10 (Over -120)
The Eagles recent feeding frenzy in the free agent market has been successful in filling just about all of their most pressing needs. If these guys play anywhere near their potential than 11+wins should be a walk in the park-OVER
Washington Redskins: 6.5 (Over -120)
Mike Shanahan is about to find out that no matter how good a coaching job you think you can do, a team devoid of a great deal of talent, playing in a tough division is a recipe for disaster-UNDER
NFC NORTH
Green Bay Packers: 11.5
The Packers remain the most talented team in the conference and should be even better this season with their IR list finally cleared off- OVER
Chicago Bears: 9.5
This team won 11 games last season using mostly smoke and mirrors. A solid defense will keep the Bears in just about every game they play, but they are counting to heavily of a bunch of Cowboy castaways to improve a mediocre offense-UNDER
Detroit Lions: 7.5 (Under -120)
This team has been stockpiling talent for the last few years and finally seems poised for a breakout year if Matthew Stafford can stay healthy enough to take get them there-OVER
Minnesota Vikings: 6.5 (Over -120)
Donovan McNabb is the latest veteran quarterback to get a shot at leading this team back to the Super Bowl, and while those aspirations may be out of reach, he should be able to get the Vikings to at least .500-OVER
NFC SOUTH
New Orleans Saints: 10 (Over +105, Under -125)
The Saints lost Reggie Busch, but drafted Mark Ingram and added Darren Sproles to take his place making this offense as potent as ever. If the defense can play to last year’s level, New Orleans should be back on top in the South this year-OVER
Atlanta Falcons: 10.5 (Over -105, Under -115)
After a 13-3 run in the regular season but a disappointing end in the playoffs, the Falcons will look to regroup with another stud receiver in Julio Jones to complement Roddy White-OVER
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 8.5
The Buccaneers need to find a way to beat the better teams in the league, if they ever want to get back to the playoffs. A tougher schedule works against their chances to do so in 2011-UNDER
Carolina Panthers: 4.5
This rebuilding project is in the beginning stages as it may take another year or two of high draft picks to catch up with the rest of the teams in the division-UNDER
NFC WEST
Seattle Seahawks: 7 (Under -120)
Seattle added Sidney Rice to give this team a legitimate No.1 receiver, but Tavaris Jackson is not the answer at quarterback and the jury is still out on Charlie Whitehurst -UNDER
St. Louis Rams: 7 (Over -120)
Sam Bradford had a solid rookie season, and appears to be on his way to becoming part of the next wave of elite quarterbacks in the league. It looks like eight wins should be enough for the Rams to win the West this year-OVER
San Francisco 49ers: 8 (Over -120)
New head coach Jim Harbaugh will go with Alex Smith after all as his starting quarterback which means it should be more of the same this year in San Francisco-UNDER
Arizona Cardinals: 6 (Over -120)
The Kevin Kolb era gets underway in Arizona this season and while he has a ways to go before making anyone forget about Kurt Warner, he will play well enough to add a few more games to the plus column this year-OVER
