MLB Pick – Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees
Los Angeles +175
New York -185
The Los Angeles Angels will try and make it two in-a-row tonight over the New York Yankees in their current three-game series at Yankee Stadium. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Los Angeles’ two-run ninth inning proved to be enough to lock-up a 6-4 victory as a 115 road underdog in last night’s game. The win improved the Angels record to 64-52 on the year and kept them just a game and a half behind Texas in the AL West. They are 32-25 at home and 32-27 on the road.
Last night’s six runs were a welcomed sight, but this team has relied on its pitching to carry the load so far this year. The Angels’ 3.35 team ERA is tops in the American League. They may need to look to their bull pen early tonight with Garrett Richards making his Major League debut against one of the best lineups in the league. Richards has been called up to take Jared Weaver’s spot in the rotation, while he serves out the remainder of a six-game suspension.
Last night’s loss was New York’s third straight after dropping the final two games of a weekend series in Boston. The Yankees are now 69-45 on the year and 2.5 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East. They are 32-22 on the road and 37-23 at home this season.
New York’s powerful lineup has to be chomping at the bit to make Garrett’s debut a forgettable one. It is currently ranked fifth in the AL in hitting with a .265 team batting average, but is the second-best team in the league at producing runs with 607 on the year.
Ivan Nova will look to keep things rolling after being inserted back into the starting rotation in late July. He is 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA in two outings since being called up. Nova is 10-4 with an ERA of 3.81 in 18 starts this season.
With the Angels’ win on Tuesday, the season series is now tied at two games apiece after the Yankees won two of three in Anaheim in early June. Last night’s total went ‘over’ the 8.5 closing line, but the first three games stayed ‘under’.
Stick with the Yankees all the way in this one, as they do not make a habit of dropping four straight especially with a pitcher on the mound that is making his first start in the Majors.
