College Football Opening Line Report For Week 4
The college football odds for week four are posted and there are plenty of great games to keep an eye on this week. When handicapping college football one of the first things that should be investigated is the opening line along with movement and smart money are lines that are “steamed”. Here is a look at some of the early lines from Bookmaker and movement in week four of the college football season.
Kansas State vs. Miami Florida
Miami Florida rebounded quite nicely with a win over Ohio State on national television, putting the Canes right back into the National spotlight. Now they are at home against lowly Kansas State and the line opened up at 13 and was promptly bet up to 14 points at most offshore books. This is mainly due to the popularity of the Canes and the fact that over 95% of the offshore money is coming in on Miami. There is no early sharp action, but this line could easily jump the key number by kickoff.
California vs. Washington
The Huskies opened up as three point favorites against California when the original line was posted. Since then the line has dropped to -2.5 as the sharp money came in on the home team. Earlier the betting action was even as 54% came in on Washington, but since then that number has steadily begun to rise.
LSU vs. West Virginia
LSU beat Mississippi State last week and has jumped to No. 2 in the college football rankings. With that they opened up as five point favorites over the Mountaineers. With the SEC dominance over other teams that number has been pushed to six points by the betting public. No early money has pushed this number so it is due to the popularity of the Tigers as they have grabbed 89% of the betting money up to this point.
UCLA vs. Oregon State
This number opened at Oregon State -3 over UCLA. The Beavers have had a very tough start to the season so the fact they are favorites is a bit stunning. It is no surprise to the sharp money as they jumped on the beavers early and made them a 3.5 point favorite with the late line move.
These are just a few of the games that have changed since the opening line came out. Remember when handicapping a game, line watching could reveal some value that will cash winning tickets when the week is over with.
