New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles Pick
NFL Week 3 Betting Previews- New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
Point spread: Philadelphia -7
Over/Under: OFF
The New York Giants head down I95 for a Sunday afternoon showdown with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles in a key early season NFC East showdown at Lincoln Financial Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on FOX.
New York was able to even its record to 1-1 this past Monday night with a 28-16 win over St. Louis as a seven-point home favorite. The total went ‘over’ the 43.5-point line. This followed a disappointing 28-14 loss to division-foe Washington as a 2.5-point road favorite in its season opener. The total in that game went ‘over’ as well with the line closing at 39.5.
The sub-plots in this heated rivalry run deep for the Giants, but the main theme will be Eli Manning’s ability to take care of the ball. His propensity for throwing interceptions and losing fumbles have had a major impact on the outcome of this matchup in the past, so the better he manages the game, the better the chance he gives his team to win.
Philadelphia’s chances in this game hinge heavily on Michael Vick’s ability to shake off the effects of a concussion he received in a 35-31 loss to Atlanta last Sunday night. The Eagles came in against the Falcons as 2.5-point road favorites and the total went ‘over’ the 48.5-point line. He is expected to play, but the lines on this game will most likely remain ‘OFF’ until this is confirmed.
If Vick cannot go, look for Mike Kafka to make his first NFL start. Against the Falcons, he completed seven of nine attempts for 72 yards but came up just short on a potential game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. Vince Young may also be available, but he has been hampered with a sore hamstring.
The Eagles have dominated this series in recent memory, winning the last six games both straight-up and against the spread. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the last four meetings. The underdog in this series is 11-2 ATS in the last 13 meetings and the road team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12.
If Vick plays, stick with Philadelphia to extend its current winning streak to seven, but take the Giants to cover the seven-point spread.
The NFL Pick: Philadelphia 28 New York 24
