The NFL season is still young but using recent observations and some common sense, it’s easy to uncover the lock for this week in the NFL. The word “lock” is often frowned upon in football betting circles. Many people hate the word and refuse to use it because they see it as a jinx. Not me because the word “lock” just means that a football gambling bettor has found their top play of the week. This week the best bet or the lock of the week is the Houston Texans to beat and cover against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The line opened up as the Texans giving four points to Pittsburgh and as expected the line dropped to 3.5 and this could easily drop as game time approaches. The Steelers are a very popular team and always attract plenty of betting action. This is a bad move for squares and a win for sharp bettors.
The Houston Texans are a vastly improved team. They have significantly improved on defense. With a new defensive coordinator, the Texans are very good at putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. This plays right into the weakness of the current Steelers team. The front line for Pittsburgh is banged up and they have problems protecting Ben Roethlisberger. The Texans will be able to take advantage of this and put pressure on the Steelers all day long. When pressured Roethlisberger will attempt to force bad passes and that will result in a turnover.
On offense the Texans have the edge again as they can exploit the Steelers through the air. The Pittsburgh secondary is beatable and can be exploited by stretching the field.
The latest sports betting trends favor the Texans in this game. The Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0. The Steelers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in October.
With a strong performance on both sides of the ball, the Texans will dominate the line of scrimmage. This game won’t be close as the Texans will light up the Steelers. Take the Texans and lay the small number as they serve notice to the league that Houston can go deep in the playoffs.
