NCAA Football Betting Previews- No.3 Oklahoma Sooners vs. No.11 Texas Longhorns

The No.3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners renew one of the best rivalries in college football this upcoming Saturday afternoon when they square-off against the No.11 Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl. The kick-off for this huge Big 12 showdown is set for 12 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

Oklahoma rolls into this game fresh-off a 62-6 romp over Ball State this past Saturday as a 39.5-point home favorite. It was a much better showing than the previous us week when the Sooners had to rally past Missouri 38-28 as 20-point home favorites. They are now 4-0 straight-up (3-1 against the spread) and the total has gone ‘over’ in these last two games after staying ‘under’ in their first two this season.

Landry Jones has led Oklahoma to the fifth-ranked passing attack in the nation with 1,447 yards in his first four games. He has thrown for 10 touchdowns and is completing an impressive 71.6 percent of his passes.

Texas also moved to 4-0 SU (3-1 ATS) with a solid 37-14 victory over Iowa State last Saturday as an 8.5-point road favorite. The total went ‘over’ the 47.5-point line. This followed a 49-20 rout of UCLA as a 3.5-point road favorite on Sept. 17. The total in that one also went ‘over’ with a closing line of 46.5 points.

The Longhorns have relied upon a punishing ground game and a shutdown defense to remain perfect on the year. They are averaging 206 rushing yards a game and holding opponents to an average of just 14.8 points a game, which is currently ranked 12^th in the country.

The Sooners are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last eight games.

The Longhorns are 4-2 ATS in their last six games overall, but just 1-4 ATS in their last five games as an underdog. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of their last seven games.

Texas holds a 4-2 SU edge in the last six meetings between the two and is 4-1-1 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in two of the last three contests. The margin of victory in this bitter rivalry as remained fairly tight in recent years, so while the Sooners win this game outright, stick with the Longhorns to cover with the nine points.
