NFL Week 5 Betting Previews- Green Bay Packers vs. Atlanta Falcons
Point spread: Green Bay -6
Over/Under: 53.5
The Green Bay Packers put their unbeaten record on the line this Sunday night under the prime time lights of the Georgia Dome when they tangle with the Atlanta Falcons. Kick-off is set for 8:20 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.
Green Bay is coming off another romp with a 49-23 victory over Denver as a 12-point home favorite last Sunday. The Packers have now outscored their opponents by a combined score of 148-97 to run their record to 4-0 straight-up and 3-1 against the spread. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the four games.
There is no doubt that Aaron Rodgers and this Green Bay offense is head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC, but there may be some cause for concern with its defense. The Packers are ranked 28th in the league overall and 18th in points allowed. They have been especially porous against the pass, ranking 31st in yards allowed.
Atlanta remains a bit of a mystery so far with a 2-2 SU record overall (1-3 ATS). It was thumped by Chicago 30-12 in its season opener as a one-point road favorite, but followed that up with victories over Philadelphia and Tampa Bay. Last week, the Falcons struggled to get by Seattle 30-28 as six-point road favorite.
Consistency has been Atlanta’s main problem through the first quarter of the season as its offense has shown flashes of greatness but is ranked 12th overall and its defense has just been plain bad at times; giving up an average of 372.8 yards of total offense a game.
The Packers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games on the road and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games following a SU win. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last five games overall.
The Falcons are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as home underdogs, but just 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last six games overall.
Head-to-head, the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in five of the seven games. Stick with this recipe as Green Bay wins and covers in a game that goes ‘over’ the total.
The Pick: Green Bay 34 Atlanta 23
