NFL Pick: San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets Preview
![]()
MetLife Stadium will be rocking and rolling for NFL betting action in Week 7, as the New York Jets take on the San Diego Chargers.
The Chargers only have one loss this year, but they can’t feel really great about this situation that they are currently in. They are just a game up in the loss column on the Oakland Raiders, who just acquired QB Carson Palmer, albeit for a tremendous ransom of draft picks. And, we also have to remember that the one loss that the Bolts have this year is on the East Coast against the New England Patriots. One could argue that New York is nowhere near as good as New England, and you’d be right, but even after a team’s bye week, this trip to the right coast is treacherous no matter who you are. TE Antonio Gates is still up in the air with his foot injury, and he will likely be a game time decision. He hasn’t caught a pass in weeks, but he is still one of the most dangerous tight ends in the game when he is available. QB Philip Rivers really hasn’t excelled yet this year either, and now, he is going up against a rough and tumble defense which is sure to be in his face the entire game. The former member of the NC State Wolfpack has only thrown for 1,536 yards and six TDs against seven picks on the season.
The Jets know that they really don’t have much margin for error right now, and the possibility is there that losing even two more games this year will see them out of the postseason for the first time in the Rex Ryan era. With the Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, and even the Cincinnati Bengals all sitting a game up on New York, a loss in this one could leave it two games out seven games into the season. Questions are coming up about this defense, which had a bit of a bye week last week on Monday Night Football against the hapless Miami Dolphins. Still, allowing 98 points in the three weeks before that is a warning sign that things aren’t right to say the least. RB LaDainian Tomlinson is ailing, and RB Shonn Greene only has 386 total yards and two rushing touchdowns on the season. To make matters worse, he hasn’t had a game this year in which he has averaged more than four yards per carry.
San Diego Chargers @ New York Jets Pick: These two teams have been doing a lot of talking this week (what’s new with the Jets?!?!?!), but it won’t matter come game time. The Chargers still have a score to settle for being knocked out of the playoffs by Ryan and the Jets two seasons ago, and that score will be settled on Sunday.
