NFL Week 7 Betting Previews-Kansas City Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders
Point spread: Oakland -3.5
After a dreadful start, the Kansas City Chiefs will try and win their third-straight game this Sunday afternoon when they square-off against the Oakland Raiders in this AFC West clash. Kick-off from the Oakland County Coliseum is set for 4:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast regionally on CBS.
Kansas City stumbled badly out of the gate with three straight losses in which it was outscored by a combined 109-27, but is hoping that two straight wins has it back on track. The Chiefs come into this game fresh off a bye at 2-3 straight-up and 3-2 against the spread. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of their five games.
One of the reasons for the turnaround is much better play from Matt Cassel. He threw for just one touchdown in the first two games, but now has seven in his last three. The Chiefs’ running game took a major hit with the loss of Jamaal Charles, but Dexter McCluster and Thomas Jones have done a respectable job at filling the void.
Oakland is off to one of its best starts in recent memory with four wins in its first six games including a dramatic 25-20 come-from-behind victory over Houston in Week 5 as a 4.5-point road underdog and a solid 24-17 win over Cleveland last Sunday as a 6.5-point home favorite. It is 5-1 ATS and the total has been evenly split at 3-3.
It will be Kyle Boller’s job to keep things going over the next month or so after Jason Campbell broke his collarbone in the win over the Browns. Boller’s last start was in 2009 for St. Louis. In his eight-year NFL career, he has completed an average of 56.7 percent of his throws and has two more interceptions (51) than touchdowns (49). Fortunately, Oakland has the second-ranked running game in the league behind Darren McFadden and Michael Bush’s combined 748 yards rushing.
The Chiefs are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games as a road underdog, but just 1-5 ATS in their last six games against the AFC West. The total has stayed ‘under’ in their last four games in the division.
The Raiders are a perfect 8-0 ATS in their last eight games in the division and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last eight games against the AFC West.
Head-to-head in this series, the underdog is 8-0 ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has stayed ‘under’ in 10 of the last 12 games. Kansas City is 7-1 ATS in its last eight trips to Oakland and uses the half-point on the spread to make it eight out of nine.
The Pick: Oakland 23 Kansas City 20
