NCAA Football Betting Previews- No.5 Clemson Tigers vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
VietBet Point spread: Clemson -4.5
Over/Under: 63.5
The undefeated Clemson Tigers take-on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this upcoming Saturday night in an ACC showdown with major implications for the conference title picture as well as the BCS standings. The kick-off from Bobby Dodd Stadium is slated for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.
Clemson cracked the top five of the BCS standings this past week with a 59-38 romp over North Carolina as a 9.5-point home favorite. The victory raised the Tigers to a perfect 8-0 straight-up (7-1 against the spread) and 5-0 SU in the Atlantic Division. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their first eight games.
Tajh Boyd is having a tremendous season at quarterback for Clemson with 2,379 yards passing and 24 touchdown throws. His favorite receiver has been Sammy Watkins, who has 54 catches for 819 yards and nine touchdowns.
Georgia Tech streaked to a 6-0 start, but losses in its last two games has dropped it to 6-2 SU (4-3-1 ATS) overall and 3-2 SU in the Coastal Division. The losses have also dropped the Yellow Jackets out of the rankings after climbing to as high as 12th in the AP poll a few weeks back. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their eight games this season.
While the total offense has sputtered the last two weeks with just 28 points combined against Virginia and Miami, the Yellow Jackets’ ground game remains extremely potent with an average of 321.1 yards a game. Three different backs have already gained over 450 yards led by Orwin Smith’s 516 yards rushing on just 42 carries.
The Tigers are 7-0 ATS in their last seven conference games and the total has stayed ‘under’ in nine of their last 12 games in the ACC.
The Yellow Jackets are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games as home underdogs and the total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last nine games in the conference.
Head-to-head in this series, the road team is 9-4 ATS in the last 13 games. Clemson is 5-1 ATS in its last six trips to Atlanta and the total has stayed under in five of the last seven meetings overall.
The Tigers are currently playing at an extremely high level while Georgia Tech’s season is on the verge of crashing and burning into the ground. Clemson exploits this edge with a huge win on the road that more than covers the 4.5-point spread.
The Pick: Clemson 28 Georgia Tech 17
