NFL Week 10 Betting Previews- New England Patriots vs. New York Jets
Point spread: New York -1.5
Over/Under: 47
The New England Patriots and the New York Jets face-off this upcoming Sunday night at MetLife Stadium in round two of this season’s two-game series, but this time the lead in the AFC East is on the line for both teams. Kick-off for this tilt is slated for 8:20 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.
Everyone’s runaway pick to win this season’s AFC title suddenly does not look the part as New England’s two-game losing streak dropped it to 5-3 straight-up (4-4 against the spread) and into a three-way tie with New York and Buffalo in the division. Last Sunday, it suffered a stunning 24-20 last-second defeat to the New York Giants as a nine-point home favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the 51-point line and now stayed ‘under’ in four of its last five games.
Quarterback Tom Brady has not looked his best over the past few weeks, but the main problem with the Patriots continues to be a defense that is giving-up an average of 416.2 yards a game, which is ranked last in the NFL.
New York has been able to bounce-back from a slow-start with three-straight wins to get back into the division race. Last week, it knocked-off the Bills 27-11 as a 2.5-point road underdog to run its record to 5-3 SU (4-4 ATS). The total stayed ‘under’ the 45-point line, but it has gone ‘over’ in five of its previous seven games.
The main reason for the Jets’ turnaround is a defense that is finally playing up to its expectations. It is currently ranked eighth overall and ninth in points allowed. Last week it held Buffalo to just 96 yards on the ground, which is a dramatic improvement from earlier this season.
The Patriots are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against the AFC East and 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games. The total has gone ‘over’ in their last five games in the division.
The Jets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the AFC East and 4-1 ATS in their last five games at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of their last 10 games in the division.
Head-to-head in this series, New England is 10-2 ATS in its last 12 trips to New Jersey and the total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last five meetings overall. Earlier this season, the Patriots ran all over the Jets 30-21 as 7.5-point home favorites. Stick with them to pull-off the season-sweep on the road this Sunday night.
