College Football Pick: Toledo vs Central Michigan
Toledo Rockets vs. Central Michigan Chippewas Gambling Odds from 5Dimes
NCAA Football Betting Favorite: Toledo -14
Over/Under: 72
The Toledo Rockets have been in two straight shootouts. They come out on the losing end of the first game against Northern Illinois, but they won 66-63 over Western Michigan last week. Central Michigan has had a disappointing season, but they are never easy to beat at home. Can anyone slow down the Toledo offense? Can the Toledo defense slow anyone else down?
The Rockets offense has been the most dynamic in the MAC so far this year. Toledo is tenth in the nation in total offense. Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens both get quite a bit of playing time at the quarterback spot for Toledo. Both quarterbacks have been extremely efficient this year. Dantin has thrown 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Owens has nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Eric Page may be the most electrifying player in the MAC. Page has 84 receptions and nine touchdowns already this year. Toledo’s offense isn’t just about the pass though. Adonis Thomas, Morgan Williams, and David Fluellen form a terrific trio of tailbacks for the Rockets. The Rockets average 41.8 points per contest.
As good as the Toledo offense has been, the defense has been horrendous over the last few weeks. The front seven has actually done a nice job against the run this year, but the secondary has been struggling in a big way. Alex Carder threw for 547 yards and seven touchdowns against Toledo last week. If Toledo is going to have a chance at winning the MAC West, the defense must step up.
Ryan Radcliffe and the Central Michigan offense has moved the ball very well through the air this year, but turnovers have cost the team in a big way. Radcliffe has thrown 15 interceptions already this season. Eight players have at least ten receptions for the Chippewas in 2011. The offense relies too heavily on the pass, because they often struggle to find any running room on the ground. Central Michigan is averaging 23 points per game this year. This offense must become more efficient.
The Chippewas defense has struggled for much of the season. Jahleel Addae is a great leader in the secondary, and he has four interceptions this year. The Chippewas are allowing 421 yards of total offense per game. Central Michigan has given up 30 points or more in seven of their last nine games. The Chippewas must find a way to slow down the multi-dimensional Rocket offense if they wish to pull an upset here.
Central Michigan is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings with Toledo. The Rockets defense has been giving up points to everyone of late, and I’ll take the home underdog here.
