NFL Lock of the Week – Week 14
The word “lock” is not always used freely in the sports betting world. It signifies the best game of the week and the best bet on the board. This essentially is a football wager that simply cannot lose. Most bettors try to dodge this moniker because they believe it is a jinx and could actually cause a bet to lose, but I disagree and feel that it is just a way to identify the best bet of the week, and this week it’s in the AFC East.
The lock of the week is the game between the Houston Texans and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Texans are one of the best teams in the AFC and maybe the NFL. It is unfortunate that they have had several injuries that have hurt them, but they are still playing good football and winning ball games. T.J. Yates has performed well as a rookie signal caller, but he will be asked to do too much this week. That is because the Bengals have a stellar run defense and will be able to shut down Arian Foster and that potent Texans running game.
The Texans are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as a road underdog, and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in December. The Bengals are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 250 total yards in their previous game and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games on field turf.
The Bengals need a win to rebound from some difficult divisional losses and will be ready to roll over the Texans. The lock of the week is a play on the Bengals.
