Monday Night Football Betting Preview- Pittsburgh Steelers vs. San Francisco 49ers
Point spread: San Francisco -2.5
Over/Under: OFF
The Pittsburgh Steelers head out to the West Coast this week for a Monday night matchup with the San Francisco at Candlestick Park in an inter-conference showdown between of two of the best teams in the NFL this season. The game is slated to get underway at 8:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Pittsburgh is currently tied with three other teams for the best record in the AFC at 10-3 straight-up, but one of them happens to be Baltimore, who has the tie-break edge in the division race. The Steelers know how hard the wildcard-road to the Super Bowl can be, so a win against the 49ers remains vital.
The Steelers come into this game with a 6-7 record against the spread and while they are 4-2 SU on the road this season, they are just 2-4 ATS. The total has gone 6-7 in their 13 games this year. The big question mark for Monday night remains the status of Ben Roethlisberger, who suffered a high ankle sprain in last week’s game against Cleveland. If cannot go, look for Charlie Batch to get the start.
San Francisco has already locked-up the NFC West with an overall record of 10-3 SU and has been a very profitable 10-2-1 ATS. It is still battling with New Orleans for the No.2 seed and first-round bye in the playoffs, so a win in this game is vital as well.
The 49ers also need a quality win given that a few cracks in the foundation have been found with two losses in their last three games including a shocking 21-19 setback to Arizona last week as 3.5-point road favorites.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 ATS in its last five games against a team with a winning record, but just 3-8 ATS in its last 11 games following a SU win. The total has gone over in six of its last eight games on the road.
San Francisco is 11-2-1 in its last 14 games overall and 6-1 ATS in its last seven games following a SU loss. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight games overall.
The final spread and total line still depend on Roethlisberger’s availability for this game, but they will only further favor the 49ers if he plays. Stick with San Francisco no matter who is at quarterback for the Steelers as Jim Harbaugh will have his team ready to go after last week’s ugly loss.
