Basketball Odds: Minnesota Timberwolves @ Los Angeles Clippers Pick
Friday night in NBA betting action, the both teams from Tinseltown are going to be on the court. In the nightcap, the Los Angeles Clippers will face the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Few really thought that the T’Wolves were going to compete this year, but alas, they are flirting with the .500 mark and are one of the better ATS teams in the conference at 9-5. Michael Beasley has been out of the lineup for almost two weeks with a foot injury, but he could be back in the fold in this one, and if that’s the case and you look at this lineup, this team really isn’t all that bad. Kevin Love is the monster in the middle averaging 25.2 points and 14.5 boards per game, while Beasley, Luke Ridnour, Jose Barea, and Ricky Rubio are all averaging double digits in scoring per game. Rubio has proven to be worth the wait, as he is not only averaging 10.7 points per game, but he is also one of the top assist men in the game, averaging 8.3 helpers per game. Derrick Williams will come along, and other youngsters like Wayne Ellington, Anthony Randolph, and Wesley Johnson will get there sooner than later. Again, this isn’t a team that is quite there yet, but we aren’t going to be resting on the Timberwolves for all that much longer, as this is the best team that they have assembled since before dealing away Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics.
Meanwhile, the Clippers sort of feel like they are taking over the world via Manifest Destiny. Now, they are suddenly in talks to get Dwight Howard, who will almost surely be the biggest name traded this year, and they are winning games even though their biggest acquisition in the preseason, Chris Paul has been out of the lineup. CP3 could be back by Friday night, as his hamstring injury shouldn’t be keeping him out for that much longer. The team picked up a big win over the Dallas Mavericks at the gun when Chauncey Billups knocked down the shot of the year for Lob City. It was what is becoming known as a typical Clippers victory. Paul didn’t play. Caron Butler shot just 1-of-12 from the floor. Blake Griffin only had 14 points. But it was a case of the next guy up. Billups had 21, DeAndre Jordan had 19, and the defense did the rest for the victory. That is sort of how LA has been doing it this year, and it is hard to argue with the success that the team has had.
Minnesota Timberwolves @ Los Angeles Clippers Trends: This is clearly the most important T’Wolves-Clippers battle in several years. The Clip Joint went 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS in the series last year when things didn’t mean nearly as much. The winning team has scored at least 111 points in five out of six, and the end result has pushed four of those six meetings past the ‘total’. The road team is 8-3 ATS in the last 11. Minnesota is just 5-11 ATS in its last 16 against Pacific Division teams.
