College Basketball Pick: Kentucky vs Georgia
Kentucky Wildcats vs. Georgia Bulldogs College Basketball Odds from BetOnline
NCAA Basketball Spread: Kentucky -12.5
Over/Under: 132
After Syracuse lost on Saturday, the Kentucky Wildcats retook the top spot in the college basketball rankings. John Calipari’s team has suffered only one loss this year, and that was a one-point loss to an Indiana team that has proved to be pretty good this season. Georgia has lost four of their last five, and Mark Fox’s team needs a good showing in this one. Let’s take a closer look at this SEC matchup.
Calipari is known for his recruiting prowess, and this year’s freshman class is wonderful yet again. Anthony Davis is having as big of an impact on the game as anyone in the nation so far this year. Davis is averaging 13.6 points and 10.4 boards per game. He is shooting 63% from the floor. Most impressive of all is the fact that Davis has racked up 91 blocks already this year. There isn’t a better shot blocker in college basketball, and Davis is going to be a star in the NBA someday soon. Marquis Teague may not quite be the scorer that Brandon Knight was, but he does a nice job setting up his teammates from the point guard spot. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is an athletic forward who averages 30 minutes per game in his rookie season.
Doron Lamb and Terrance Jones are considered “veterans” on this team. Lamb is the team’s leading scorer at 14 points per game. Jones has actually seen his scoring drop a bit from his freshman year, but he is fully capable of taking over in key moments. It is the Kentucky defense that holds opponents to just 36% shooting from the floor that makes them so dangerous.
Georgia is a team that relies heavily on their strong defense. The Bulldogs give up just 63.2 points per contest. Opponents hit just 32% from beyond the arc against Georgia. The problem for this team is that they just aren’t efficient at all on the offensive end. Georgia is shooting a miserable 39.8% from the floor on the season. It won’t get any easier in this for the Bulldogs, as they will face the best defense they have seen all year.
Dustin Ware is a quick point guard who can generally get good looks, but he is knocking down only 34.7% of his shots this year. Kentavius Caldwell-Pope is only a freshman, but he is already the team’s leader. Caldwell-Pope scored 25 points in the team’s overtime loss at home against Ole Miss this past Saturday. The Bulldogs don’t really have an inside presence on offense, and that allows the team’s to focus more on the team’s talented point guards.
Kentucky has been great at winning this year, but they are only 4-14-1 ATS. Georgia should slow this game down and stay within the number in a spirited effort at home.
