Basketball Betting Previews- Ohio State Buckeyes vs Minnesota Golden Gophers
Pointspread: Ohio State
Total Line: OFF
The Ohio State Buckeyes will look to bounce-back from a rare loss this Tuesday night when they square-off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in this Big Ten matchup. The tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Ohio State will surely tumble in the rankings after Saturday’s 58-48 loss to No.12 Michigan State as an 8.5-point home favorite. The loss dropped the Buckeyes to 21-4 straight-up and 12-8 against the spread. They are 4-3 SU (3-4 ATS) in seven road games this season and the total has gone ‘over’ in four of them.
The 48 points against the Spartans was well below Ohio State’s season average of 75.8 points a game and it has only eclipsed that total once in its last four games. The Buckeyes have three players averaging over 14 points led by Jared Sullinger’s 17.4 points a game.
Minnesota is 2-3 SU in its last five games and coming off a 68-61 overtime loss to No.22 Wisconsin last Thursday as a 1.5-point home underdog. The loss dropped the Golden Gophers to 17-8 SU on the year and 11-10-1 ATS. They are 12-3 SU at home and 6-5-1 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of the 12 games.
If they are going to have any shot at winning this game, the Gophers will need a huge effort out of Rodney Williams and Julian Welch, who lead the team in scoring with each posting just over 10 points per game. Minnesota is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point range.
The Buckeyes are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against the Big Ten and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a SU loss. The total has gone ‘over’ in 15 of their last 21 games on the road.
The Golden Gophers are 7-15-1 ATS in their last 23 conference games and 6-14-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a SU loss. The total has gone ‘over’ in their last four games following both a SU and ATS loss.
The favorite in this series is 10-1 ATS in the last 11 meetings and the total has stayed ‘under’ in five of the last seven games played in Minnesota. Stick with Ohio State to mirror the recent trends in this series as a likely road favorite with a convincing win on Tuesday night.
