NBA Pick: Dallas Mavericks @ New York Knicks Preview
The struggles for the Mavericks have been well documented this year. They have had some major injury issues over the year, including missing out on Dirk Nowitzki for some time and Jason Kidd for some time. Now, the men that are out of the lineup are Jason Terry, Rodrique Beaubois, and Delonte West. Yet when you look at it, Dallas has 20 wins this year and has one of the best records in the West. It has won six games in a row and is 5-1 ATS in this stretch, and the 82-75 win over the Philadelphia 76ers marked the team’s eighth straight win both SU and ATS against Atlantic Division foes. As always, Dirk Nowitzki is going to be the man of the hour, especially with all of the guards that are out of the fold. Dirk did the job on Friday night, coming up with 28 points and 12 boards in the victory over the Sixers.
We knew that the Knicks weren’t going to win every single game this year now that Linsanity has struck, but losing games against the New Orleans Hornets here at Madison Square Garden certainly wasn’t expected. Jeremy Lin did his scoring on Friday night, coming up with 26 points. When New York is winning, all that we are hearing about Lin is that he is doing his scoring. There is really good reason for that. He has scored at least 20 points in seven of his eight games in the fold for the Knicks. The five assists that he had against the Hornets was the lowest total that he has had since getting into the lineup. Of course, now that Lin and the Knicks have lost, all that anyone wants to talk about is the fact that he turned the ball over nine times in the defeat. However, this isn’t all that out of the ordinary as well. Lin has at least six turnovers in five straight games, and that just isn’t going to get the job done at the point guard spot. The question here is whether this will be the game in which Carmelo Anthony gets back in the lineup. JR Smith might be set to make his debut back in this country after a season in the Chinese League during the lockout.
The Final Word: We just don’t trust that Linsanity is going to continue. There are just too many turnovers at this point for the Knicks as a whole, and though we know that the possibility is there that there could be some new players back in the fold, we don’t know if that will immediately help the team or not. Back Dirk and the Mavs for another victory at MSG on Sunday afternoon.
