This is definitely going to be a bit of an interesting week for the Bulls, as their next two games are against the Sixers, a team that crushed them just a few weeks ago, and the Indiana Pacers, one of the two teams to beat them in the Windy City this year. Chicago has a healthy bunch now that Richard Hamilton is back in the fold, and all of the back problems for Derrick Rose seem to be issues in the past at this point. The Bulls are now the proud owners of a five-game winning streak, and they are a rock solid 4-1 ATS in that stretch. Their defense is starting to look a lot more like the unit that was so frightening for the rest of the league at the outset of the year, as there hasn’t been an opponent score more than 95 against this bunch since the team was beaten by the New Jersey Nets just before the All-Star Break. Even on the road, the Bulls are getting the job done, as they have already knocked off the San Antonio Spurs, one of the top home teams in the league, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, one of the upstarts in the East by convincing margins.
The Sixers have proven that they can beat some of the best teams in the league, but their win over the Bulls earlier this year in this venue proved to be a bit of a farce due to the fact that Luol Deng and Rip Hamilton were watching from the sidelines, while Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah only combined for 11 points. There are definitely some scorers missing from this Philly team, but defensively, there aren’t many teams in the league that do it better. The 76ers just held the Golden State Warriors down to just 83 points, and they also kept the Detroit Pistons down to 68 in the first game after the All-Star Break. All told, they rank No. 1 in the league in total defense at 87.0 points per game, and teams are only shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from beyond the arc against them. Philly’s leading scorer is Louis Williams, who is good for 15.7 points per game. He came off the bench and put up 25 points in the win against Golden State, but both Andre Iguodala and Elton Brand posted double-doubles of note as well.
The Final Word: Chicago is going to get its revenge in this one. The Bulls are the better side, and they are now a complete team. Philly is overmatched, and the Bulls are probably going to make very short work of this team and flex their muscles as the best defensive side in the Eastern Conference.
Chicago Bulls @ Philadelphia 76ers Pick: Chicago Bulls -4.5
