NCAA Basketball Pick: Baylor vs. Missouri Big XII Final Preview
The Big XII Tournament wraps up on Saturday night, and the argument could be made that there are a lot of great seeds that are going to be handed out in this game between the Baylor Bears and the Missouri Tigers.
Baylor has quite the interesting resume. The team was beaten by both the Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks twice apiece this year, but the win over Kansas on Friday could go a long way towards getting onto the top line in the dance. A win in this one would help out a lot as well. We don’t think that the Bears are going to be able to get all the way to the top regardless of this. No one doubts the fact that this is a talented team. Perry Jones III is one of the four men on this team averaging double digits in scoring, and all four could put up 20+ points in any given game. Pierre Jackson is shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 44.5 percent from beyond the arc, and he is good for 13.4 points per game along way being one of the best passing point guards in the land. Quincy Acy and Quincy Miller are good for 23.2 points per game combined. Brady Heslip is the forgotten man in this fold at times, though we certainly aren’t overlooking his 9.5 points per game.
There were a heck of a lot of weeks in which the Tigers were going to be on the top line, but after two losses to Kansas, that thought ended. Now all of a sudden, with the Jayhawks out of the Big XII Tournament, the door has opened for Missouri once again. We don’t know if a win in this game would get the job done, but we do think that there would at least be a case. Either way, there shouldn’t be a way that the Tigers fall beyond the No. 2 line in our eyes. If you like offense, this is the team for you. Mizzou is averaging 80.0 points per game this year, and it is shooting 50.3 percent from the field, No. 3 in the entire country. Marcus Denmon is the catalyst that keeps this team going, and he is one of the many guards that can get the job done. Yesterday, he only scored two points, and yet Kim English and Phil Pressey both had 23 points, while Ricardo Ratliffe was good for 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The Final Word: The Bears seem to need this one a little bit more than the Tigers do, just to prove that they can indeed beat some of the top teams in the land. The win over Kansas was quite the accomplishment, but a win over Missouri would be even better. The Tigers can run, but the Bears can stick around. Take Baylor on Saturday.
