NCAA Tournament Betting: West Virginia vs. Gonzaga Pick
A pair of clubs that think they can take advantage of a relatively favorable bracket meet in the second round of NCAA Tournament betting action, as the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Over the course of the last several years, we have seen West Virginia make some great runs in the NCAA Tournament, some of which have come out of some very odd seeds. This year might be no exception, as this No. 10 seed has the potential to be legit. Any time that you can get together one of the top big men in the country with a guard that has the ability to do literally anything from anywhere on the court, you are going to be a team to be reckoned with, and that is what WVU has at its disposal. Kevin Jones shoots 51.3 percent from the field. He is averaging 20.1 points and 11.1 boards per game, and he was clearly one of the best players in the entire conference this year. The forgotten man is Darryl Bryant. Sure, Bryant takes just a ton of shots to be able to get his points, but he is good for 17.2 points per game and can really light the world on fire when he gets going. If these two turn out to be clutch, the ‘Neers could go a long, long way in this tournament.
The Bulldogs won 25 games this year, but we are really going to wonder out loud just how good most of those 25 wins were. Two against the BYU Cougars and one against the Saint Mary’s Gaels (out of three) were okay, but the rest of this schedule is just more or less, blah. The win over the Xavier Musketeers came when the X-Men were totally dysfunctional, and the win against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish came before they found their identity. No one else that the Zags beat are dancing. Makes you wonder… Head Coach Mark Few definitely has done a great job with this program, but there are some concerns, too. Why has this team not made a run to the Elite 8 since that magical run that really put it on the map? Elias Harris and Robert Sacre are two great big men, but the guards just haven’t been as good this of late for the WCC alpha dogs. It could be time to really start to revamp some things if this team is truly going to have a shot at a Final Four one of these days in the near future.
The Final Word: Sure, Gonzaga is the better seed, but there is a reason that the Selection Committee punished it and the rest of its WCC brethren in this field. West Virginia is clearly the better of the two teams in our eyes, and we think that this game, which is lined awfully close, is going to be a romp when matters are said and done with.
