NCAA Tournament Betting: Vanderbilt vs. Wisconsin Pick
Two teams with a ton of potential meet in the second full round of NCAA Tournament betting action on Saturday night, as the Wisconsin Badgers duke it out with the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The Commodores had a bit of a hard time in the first round of the dance taking care of a stingy Harvard Crimson outlet from the Ivy League. This is a team that is either going to keep up with the momentum that it has built from the SEC Tournament or will eventually tire out, but for the way that the teams from their conference have played thus far in the dance, there is no reason to believe that they are going to drop any time in the near future. Festus Ezeli was a monster against a Harvard team that just didn’t have the sheer athleticism and height to deal with him, and the big man had 11 boards and four blocks on the defensive end of the court. Jeffrey Taylor and John Jenkins both had good games, scoring 16 and 27 respectively, and these are the two that are really going to be responsible for the big time scoring in this one against a very good defensive team. If not, someone like a Brad Tinsley is going to have to step it up. He had 16 points on Thursday in relatively surprising fashion, and he or one of the other lesser known ‘Dores are going to have to be big to win this game.
The Badgers and most of the rest of the teams in the Big 10 have had a big time tourney. Wisconsin used its power on both sides of the ball to dispose of an overmatched Montana Grizzlies team out of the Big Sky on Thursday night. The ‘D’ held down Montana to just 18 made shots and a 38.3 percent shooting effort from the field, and for the game, the Big Sky champs only had a total of 19 rebounds. On the flip side, the Badgers shot 47.9 percent from the floor and 52.6 percent from downtown, and they picke dup 32 boards. Ryan Evans led the way with 18 points, while Jordan Taylor had 17. Two others schedule in double digits. Jared Berggren, who has the ability to be a double-double type of man and a monster on both ends of the court, was relatively quiet offensively with just a 2-for-9 shooting performance with five points. However, he blocked seven shots and made life generally miserable for the big boys for Montana.
The Final Word: We think that the advantage goes to the Big Ten in this battle. The Commodores are going to run out of gas eventually, and when that happens, we think that they are going to be disposed of relatively easily when it is said and done. This tough of a team defensively is going to be too much for Vandy to withstand.
