The Devils are still in a position where they can win the Atlantic Division and the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, but without going on a big time run, they are going to have to open up the playoffs on the road. This might be a game that is a must win, knowing that there are eight points to make up with just 10 games to play with three other teams to hop. There is no doubt that New Jersey is going to be in the postseason. The man that is really playing well right now for the Devils is Martin Brodeur. The ageless wonder did allow five goals against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, but he had only allowed a total of six goals in his previous six games. Without Brodeur between the pipes doing a fantastic job, the offense, which at times has been lackluster, wouldn’t be able to keep this team around in the discussion for the best records in the conference.
The Rangers have been slumping, and all of a sudden, thanks to the long winning streak for the Pittsburgh Penguins, there is a real chance for them to fall out of the top spot in the conference and perhaps have to go on the road. For as well as they have played at Madison Square Garden this year, they are slumping now after losing to the Pens and the Colorado Avalanche in back to back games. There are still three more games on this home stand, but with a total of five losses in the last seven games, we are very concerned to say the least. Henrik Lundqvist is holding firm for a defense that is allowing 2.2 goals per game this year, ranking No. 3 in the game. Still, the team in front of him has been awful over the course of the last two weeks or so, and this just can’t keep up if the team wants the upper hand going into the postseason.
New Jersey Devils @ New York Rangers Pick: The Rangers probably shouldn’t be laying as much as they are on Monday night on the NHL odds. They are the better of these two teams, but they aren’t playing the better hockey right now. The Devils will get the job done on Monday night and make matters a lot closer in the Atlantic Division.
