The Phoenix Suns will look to further close the gap with the Los Angeles Clippers in the Pacific Division when the two teams clash this Wednesday night at the Staples Center. Game time is set for 10:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on NBA League Pass.
Phoenix is still on the outside looking in as far as the playoffs, but a 7-3 record in its last 10 games including back-to-back road victories over Indiana and Cleveland have the Suns five games in back of the Lakers and three games in back of the Clippers in the division. They are now 25-24 straight-up (26-23 against the spread) overall and 10-14 SU (12-12 ATS) on the road heading into Tuesday night’s game at home against Sacramento. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 16 of the 24 road games.
Marcin Gortat leads Phoenix with 16 points a game but it has four other players scoring in double figures. The Suns are averaging 96.9 points a game and giving-up an average of 97.4 points, but they have put-up 221 points in their last two games.
Los Angeles is just 5-5 in its last 10 games, but riding a two-game winning streak with wins at home against Memphis and New Orleans in which it covered as a favorite. The Clippers are 28-21 SU on the year and 24-25 ATS. They are 17-8 SU (13-12 ATS) at home and the total has stayed ‘under’ in 16 of the 25 games.
Mo Williams will be out of the lineup until early April with a toe injury, but it is still the Chris Paul and Blake Griffin show in LA. These two are combining for 40.3 points a game with Paul chipping-in 8.6 assists and Griffin pulling-down 10.8 rebounds. The Clippers are averaging 96.9 points a game while shooting 44.8 percent from the field.
The Suns are 5-1 ATS in their last six games on no day’s rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of their last 11 games in the division.
The Clippers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games at home and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last eight home games.
Head-to-head in this series, Phoenix is 4-0 both SU and ATS in the last four games including a 91-87 win as a nine-point road underdog on March 15. The total has stayed ‘under’ in all four games. Expect another low-scoring battle this time around as the Suns extend their streak to five games over the Clippers with a SU win on the road. The Free NBA Pick: Phoenix 90 Los Angeles 88
