The Red Wings are still trying to make sure that they finish in second place in the Central Division. If they are able to do that, they will be the No. 4 seed and get home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs over either the Chicago Blackhawks or Nashville Predators. If not though, it is off on the road, where Detroit is just a woeful 16-21-3 this year. It is strange to think that this team might not have a single player notch even 70 points this season. The Wings are a team that normally rank in the tops of the league offensively, but this year, 3.0 goals per game seems a tad lackluster. There have been a slew of injuries, though the efforts of all have been well-rounded. Henrik Zetterberg, Valtteri Filppula and Pavel Datsyuk all have at least 64 points on the campaign, and they are three of the five that have a shot at reaching 20 goals on the year. There are a total of 10 Red Wings that have at least 10 goals on the campaign as well.
If you aren’t all that impressed with the numbers that the Red Wings put up this year offensively, you are going to hate what the Blues have done. David Backes leads the team with just a total of 54 points on the year. St. Louis has clearly made itself this season by taking care of the puck, playing great defense, and getting strong net minding. Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott both have GAAs below 2.00, and there aren’t many teams in the history of the league that can boast that, knowing that this has legitimately been a platoon all season long. Elliott has the best GAA in the league at 1.48. The team has dropped two in a row, but the Central Division title has already been locked up. It is going to be hard to run down the Vancouver Canucks for the top seed in the West, but that is still the ultimate goal for this team at this point.
Detroit Red Wings @ St. Louis Blues Pick: The loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets was awfully puzzling for the Blues in their last game. That being said, we think that their home ice advantage for a team that already has 30 victories here at Scottrade Arena this year, is going to be the difference, especially against a team that is well below .500 for the campaign on the road.
