The NBA kicks-off the final month of the regular season with an eye towards the playoffs as the race for the top eight spots in each conference remains in full gear. Chicago’s rare two-game losing streak has cut its lead over Miami in the East to three games, while Oklahoma City’s lead over San Antonio in the West is down to 2.5 games. The race for both the Atlantic and Pacific Division title remains extremely tight with the lead in each at just one game.
This NBA betting guide is designed to single-out the teams that have been able to separate themselves from the pack where it matters the most: against the spread. The following is a brief look at the top four teams that fit the bill with records updated through Monday night’s games
Saturday night’s 112-103 victory over Indiana as eight-point home favorites was the surging San Antonio Spurs seventh-straight win and 10th in their last 11 games to raise their overall record to 36-14 SU.They have also done a great job at covering during this run with a 9-2 record ATS. Overall, the Spurs have the best record in the league ATS at 31-18-1. They are 18-7 ATS at home this season and 13-11-1 ATS on the road. The total has gone 28-22 overall this season with it staying ‘under’ in 15 of 25 games at home and going ‘over’ in 18 of 25 games on the road.
The Chicago Bulls have lost three of their last five games but they still have the best record in the NBA at 40-13 SU. Despite going 2-4 ATS in their last six games, the Bulls remain a profitable 32-23 ATS. This has not been the case at home where they are 21-6 SU, but just 13-14 ATS. Where Chicago has provided an incredible return is on the road with a SU record of 21-7 to go along with a 19-9 record ATS. The total has gone 28-26-1 overall; 13-13-1 at home and 15-13 on the road.
The Toronto Raptors have played their way out of playoff contention with an overall record of 18-35 SU, but have the third-best record in the league ATS at 30-22-1. They remain hot with a 4-1 ATS in their last five games and have paid-off no matter where they play with a 15-11-1 ATS record at home and a 15-11 ATS record on the road. The total has gone 13-14 in 27 home games and 10-14-2 in 26 games on the road.
The final team on this week’s list is the Oklahoma City Thunder. A 6-1 SU run in their past seven games has raised their overall record to 40-13 SU and a 5-2 record ATS during the same stretch of games has the Thunder 30-23 ATS. They are 15-13 ATS at home this season and 15-10 ATS on the road. The total has gone 26-27 overall with its going ‘over’ in 15 of 28 home games, while staying ‘under’ in 14 of 25 games on the road. Oklahoma City’s recent tear has opened-up a gaping 11-game lead over Denver in the Northwest Division and clinched the first playoff spot in the conference.
A few other teams that remain profitable ATS this season include the Atlanta Hawks at 31-23 SU and 28-24-2 ATS, the Denver Nuggets at 29-24 SU and 28-25 ATS, and the Orlando Magic at 32-21 SU and 28-25 ATS.
A few teams with winning records on the court but sub-.500 records ATS include the Los Angeles Lakers at 33-20 SU but a dismal 22-31 ATS, the Indiana Pacers at 31-21 SU but 24-28 ATS, and the Memphis Grizzlies at 29-22 SU but 24-27 AT.
