NBA Pick: Chicago Bulls @ New York Knicks Preview 4/8/12
Sunday’s NBA betting action kicks off this week in the Big Apple, where the surging New York Knicks look to send a big time statement to the Chicago Bulls.
The Bulls have one of the best road records in the game both from an SU and an ATS standpoint. They are 21-7 SU and 19-9 ATS in those games, and they are certainly well on their way to either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. After 12 games on the bench, it seems as though Derrick Rose is going to be back in the fold for this one on Sunday. Rose, the defending MVP of the league, has been dealing with nagging injuries all season long, but Head Coach Tom Thibodeau and the crew have decided to be extra careful with their superstar’s groin injury in this case, knowing that he really hasn’t been needed. That being said, this is going to become a team that looks a heck of a lot more formidable with CJ Watson coming off of the bench with Ronnie Brewer, making this one of the deepest teams at really all five positions as any team in the league. Of course, the defense that Chicago plays is always tremendous, and this year is no exception. The Bulls rank No. 2 in the league, allowing just 88.8 points per game.
Head Coach Mike Woodson just keeps getting more and more out of his players, and the end result is that the Knicks should be in the playoffs this year even though Woodson inherited a team that was apparently in shambles before the departure of Mike D’Antoni. The team only has three losses since that point, and that is really saying something considering the fact that Jeremy Lin, Amare Stoudemire, and Carmelo Anthony have all spent time hurt in this stretch. Melo is really the man that is taking charge of his team, though. The former member of the Denver Nuggets is now up to 21.0 points per game this year, and he has put up four games of at least 25 points in his last six, including a pair of big double-doubles in this stretch. The key has been the defense for this team as well. The Orlando Magic were held to just 166 points in two losses to the Knicks over the course of the last weeks and a half, and the team has now held five of its last seven foes down to 86 points or fewer.
The Final Word: This is the type of game in which the Knicks can make a huge statement. Remember that this is a team that is still within striking distance of the Atlantic Division title, and especially here at the Garden, where the team has played so well against big time foes of late, we think that New York is going to get the job done and take care of the Bulls.
