MLB Betting Previews- Miami Marlins vs Philadelphia Phillies
Money Line: Miami +120 Philadelphia -140
Total Line: 6
The Miami Marlins will try and ensure their first series win of the new season in Game 2 of a three-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies when the two square-off against each other this Wednesday night at Citizen’s Bank Park. This NL East tilt is slated to get underway at 7:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
It did not take long for Miami manager Ozzie Guillen to land in hot water after controversial remarks about Fidel Castro drew a five-game suspension from the team. The Marlins 2-3 start has also been a point of contention, but they did beat the Phillies 6-2 as 132 road underdogs in Monday’s Game 1.
Miami will go with Josh Johnson as its starter in this game after the right-hander came up on the wrong end in the team’s 4-1 season-opening loss to St. Louis last Wednesday as a 172 home favorite . He gave up 10 hits and three earned runs in six innings of work against the Cardinals. Johnson is 5-3 against the Phillies with a 3.16 ERA.
Philadelphia started the new season as the prohibitive favorite to win the National League this season, but hardly look the part with a 1-3 start on the year. The Phillies scored a total of eight runs in the first four games with both Ryan Howard and Chase Utley out of the lineup.
Fortunately, they will have their ace Roy Halladay on the mound to try and even this series up. He pitched eight scoreless innings and gave-up just two hits in the Phillies 1-0 win over Pittsburgh on opening day as 149 road favorites. Lifetime against the Marlins, he is 4-3 with an ERA of just 2.51.
The Marlins are 3-8 in their last 11 games and 2-6 in their last eight road games dating back to last year. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 11 of their last 14 games against the NL East.
The Phillies are just 1-9 in their last 10 home games and 2-10 in their last 12 games following a loss. The total has stayed ‘under’ in nine of their last 14 games against the division.
Philadelphia won 12 of 18 overall in last year’s series and went 7-2 at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of last nine meetings including Monday’s game. Stick with the past series trends and the fact that Halladay is on the mound in another low-scoring Phillies’ win. The Free MLB Pick: Philadelphia 3 Miami 1
