The New York Yankees continue their three-game series against the red-hot Texas Rangers at the Rangers Park in Arlington this Tuesday night with Game 2. The first pitch is schedule for 8:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will be available on MLB.TV.
New York posted one of the greatest comebacks in MLB history this past Saturday with a 15-9 victory over the rival Boston Red Sox as 111 road underdogs after trailing 9-0 heading into the sixth inning. Sunday’s finale at Fenway was rained-out so the Yankees came into this series at 9-6 and tied with Toronto for first place in the AL East before Monday night’s Game 1.They are 4-3 at home and 5-3 on the road.
Hiroki Kuroda is scheduled to get the start for New York on Tuesday night. The Japanese right hander got bounced around in his last outing against Minnesota after giving-up six earned runs on 10 hits in just 4.1 innings. Through three starts, he has a 5.00 ERA and a WHIP of 1.61. Lifetime against the Rangers, Kuroda lost in his only other previous start against the Rangers.
Texas has already established itself as the team to beat in the AL West with a 13-3 record heading into this series. It has opened-up a 5.5-game lead over Oakland and currently has the best record in the Majors. The Rangers are 8-1 on the road and 5-3 at home.
They will send Yu Darvish to the mound in Game 2. The right hander was one of Texas’s huge offseason acquisitions from the Japan and so far he has more than lived up to all the hype. In three MLB starts, he is 2-0 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. After a sluggish start, Darvish has given-up just two earned runs in his last 12 innings.
The Yankees are 5-2 in their last seven games against the AL West and 5-2 in their last seven games against a right-handed starter. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last five games.
The Rangers are 6-1 in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 8-1 in their last nine Tuesday games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in eight of their last nine home games.
Head-to-head, New York has won six of the last seven games including the final four games of last season’s series. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last five meetings.
Stick with the Yankees on Tuesday night in spite of Darvish’s early success, as they find a way to get at him right off the bat to take the early lead. The Free MLB Pick: New York 6 Texas 4
