Basketball Odds: San Antonio Spurs @ Phoenix Suns Pick
Wednesday night’s game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns could have meant the world to both teams, but instead, it is an NBA betting battle that really doesn’t have a lot of bearing on either squad as the season draws to a close.
The Spurs do at least have a little something to play for in this one, as they are still trying to lock down the top overall seed in the NBA playoffs this year. They already know that they are the No. 1 seed in the West, but a win in this one would keep the pressure on the Chicago Bulls, who are the top overall seed in the postseason right now. Both teams still play both tonight and Thursday. They have identical records going into those last two games, and Chicago will win the tiebreaker should the two teams end with the same record. That being said, Head Coach Gregg Popovich has already taken his best players off of the court, and we don’t expect to see Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, or Tony Parker playing in either of these last two games of the year. That being said, this is still a team that is deep enough to beat anyone in the league, especially a team that is coming off of such a debilitating loss last night. Watch for Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard to step up for the Spurs tonight and come up with big time games.
The Suns were beaten by the Utah Jazz on the road on Tuesday night, and that knocked them out of the playoffs once and for all. This is the final game of the season, and it might be the last time that Steve Nash suits up for the team. Nash is still one of the best pure passing point guards that the league has to offer, and he averaged 10.8 assists per game this year to go with his 12.5 points and 3.0 boards per night. Nash has shot 53.1 percent from the field, 39.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 89.4 percent from the charity stripe, and he has had such a great impact on this team over the course of the last eight seasons since coming over from the Dallas Mavericks. That being said, with his contracting expiring and the team clearly going nowhere soon, Nash might be ready to move on. There is a question as to how motivated this team is going to be tonight, though it should help that the top seed in the West is the team coming to town.
The Final Word: Even with all of the stars resting for the Spurs, we still think that they are going to find a way to win this game. The Suns just looked downright bad down the stretch this year, and they just aren’t going to have it when push comes to shove on Wednesday night.
