Mets and Phillies battle it out one more time at Citizens Bank Park
Money Line: New York +135 Philadelphia -145
Total Line: 7
The New York Mets wrap-up a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies this Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. Game time for this NL East clash is set for 7:05 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on MLB.TV.
New York drew first blood in this series with an impressive 5-2 win against Phillies’ ace Roy Halladay as a 161 road favorite on Monday night. The total went ‘over’ the 6.5 run line. The win improved the Mets to 16-13 and just 2.5 games behind Washington for the lead in the division. They are 6-7 on the road and the total has gone ‘over’ in seven of their last 10 games.
The Mets have done a good job this season hitting the ball with a .262 team batting average, but are still struggling to score on a consistent basis with 111 runs. They will go with Dillion Gee as their starter for Wednesday night. He has gone over six innings in his last four starts and is 2-2 with a 4.5 ERA in five previous outings. The right-hander is 2-1 against the Phillies with a 7.85 ERA.
Philadelphia has won just three of its first nine series to open the season 14-16 overall and are five games out of first in the NL East. It is 9-10 on the road and just 5-6 at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in 17 of its 30 games overall. The absence of players such as Ryan Howard and Chase Utley has taken its toll on this team’s production at the plate and its ability to consistently score runs.
Cliff Lee should be a welcomed sight for Philadelphia as Wednesday’s starter, given he is just coming off the 15-day DL after nursing a strained oblique. Before going out, he gave-up five earned runs in 23 previous innings for an overall record of 0-1 and an ERA of 1.96. The left-hander is 2-1 with a 1.61 ERA against New York in his career.
The Mets are 1-4 in their last five road games against a lefty starter but 13-5 in Gee’s last 18 starts on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last six games.
The Phillies are 16-7 in Lee’s last 23 home starts but just 6-14 in their last 20 home games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in seven of Lee’s last nine starts at home.
Head-to-head, New York is now 6-2 in the last eight meetings and 4-1 in its last five games in Philadelphia. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of the last seven meetings in Philadelphia.
Stick with the Phillies behind a healthy Cliff Lee, who stymies New York with seven innings of his best stuff. The Pick: Philadelphia 4 New York 3.
