To say that the Spurs are on a roll is a tremendous understatement. They have romped to a pair of wins in this series, and save for Game 4 against the Utah Jazz when they “only” won by a half dozen, they have won all five of their playoff games by at least a dozen points. In fact, dating back to the regular season, San Antonio is now 16-0 SU and 14-1-1 ATS in its last 16 games, a run the likes that we have never seen before at the NBA level. In just one of those games, that 87-81 win over the Jazz in the close out game of the last round, did someone hold the Spurs under 102 points. Just three times, none of which have been in the playoffs, did the foes score at least 100 points. This truly has been remarkable, and it is amazing that we aren’t hearing more about such a tremendous accomplishment. San Antonio is for real, and this isn’t a series that is expected to last all that much longer, if it even gets back to the Alamo at all.
The Clippers look like they have run into a buzz saw. They have been absolutely plastered thus far in this series, and they look like a team that just doesn’t have anything else left in the tank. After a brutally ugly Game 1, Game 2 was no easier. LA turned the ball over 18 times and only forced 11 turnovers, and it allowed the Spurs to shoot 53.2 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc. What made matters even worse was that the Clips themselves shot 49.2 percent from the field and 69.2 percent from downtown – numbers that almost always equate to victory. But, thanks to the turnovers and the fact that the Spurs consistently won the battle on the glass, the hosts took a whopping 16 more shots than did the Clippers. Chris Paul had his second straight terrible game in this series, and he now has just 16 points in two games. He also turned the ball over eight times. Blake Griffin did score 20, but the rest of the team seemingly was just missing in action for its duration.
San Antonio Spurs @ Los Angeles Clippers Game 3 Pick: We would really love the back the Clippers in this game, but we just can’t get away from the hot hands of the Spurs. It bears repeating: They are 14-1-1 ATS in their last 16 games dating back to the regular season, and it doesn’t even look like they have broken a sweat here in the playoffs.
