The San Antonio Spurs have done everything right at home in the first two games of this series especially in Tuesday night’s 120-111 victory as 4.5-point home favorites. Now they have to take their show on the road in hopes of not only remaining perfect in the postseason after two four-game sweeps in the first two rounds, but to take a commanding 3-0 lead in this series.
The Spurs are actually riding a 20-game winning streak dating back to April 12. They are 7-3 against the spread in the playoffs and 9-0-1 ATS in their last 10 games of the regular season. The total went ‘over’ the 203.5-point line in Game 2 but it has stayed ‘under’ in seven of San Antonio’s previous nine postseason games.
It has been a total team effort during this run with stars such as Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili clearly playing at the top of their game. They put on a clinic against the Thunder in the early part of Tuesday’s game and closed-out a 101-98 win in Game 1 as 5.5-point favorites like a champion waiting to be crowned.
Oklahoma City will have to make some adjustments to get back into this series, but it also knows that if it takes care of business at home, starting with a victory on Thursday night, it is just one road win away from winning this series. The Thunder are 5-0 straight-up at home in the playoffs but 2-3 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of those five games.
Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden combined for 88 points in Game 2 while going 30-of-54 from the field. Against most other teams, that effort would be more than enough to win the game, but right now the Spurs are definitely not ‘most other teams’. Oklahoma City is going to have to use its home-court advantage to disrupt the rhythm of a San Antonio team that shot 45.8 percent from the floor in Game 1 only to elevate that to 55.1 percent on Tuesday night.
Prediction
It is hard to see the Spurs putting up the same kind of numbers on the road like they did in the first two games of this series, but this team is playing with such momentum it will keep this game painfully close from the opening tip. Look for the Thunder to finally snap the Spurs incredible winning streak, but stick with San Antonio to cover with the 3.5 points in a one possession game. Oklahoma City 104 San Antonio 102
