AFC 2012 Win Totals Previews and Predictions

NFL Betting Trends- AFC 2012 Win Totals

The start of the 2012 NFL regular season is still close to two and half months away, but BetDSI is one of a few books that has already released its projected win totals for all 32 teams along with a corresponding money line for the ‘over’ and ‘under’.

This edition of NFL Betting Trends will take a look at the projected total for each of the 16 teams in the AFC along with a prediction on the ‘over/under’.

New England Patriots 12.5

As long as Bill Belichick is at the helm as head coach and Tom Brady is this team’s starting quarterback, the Patriots should win at least 10 games. Their schedule is a bit tougher this season so 12-4 is a reasonable record. UNDER.

Pittsburgh Steelers 10.5

Pittsburgh has done an excellent job at bouncing back from disappointing seasons in the past in recent years. Even though it did win 12 games last season, it will be primed for a much longer run in the postseason. OVER

Baltimore Ravens 10

You get the sense that Baltimore’s window for another run to the Super Bowl is starting to close. How much more juice can the Ravens squeeze out of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed? UNDER

Houston Texans 9.5

Matt Schaub is back at quarterback and Arian Foster is primed for another big year. The rest of the AFC South is in transition so the Texans should cruise to another division title. Tack on a few more wins here and there and it should easily add up to 10. OVER

San Diego Chargers 9

This is another team whose window of opportunity appears to have closed. Philip Rivers at quarterback always gives you a chance to win, but not more than nine times in 2012. This win total appears to be right on the money. PUSH

Denver Broncos 8.5

There are still a number of question marks with this team, but the Broncos have an improved defense, a decent running game, and a future Hall of Famer at quarterback that is just itching to prove he still has enough gas in the tank to play at a high level. OVER

New York Jets 8.5

The Tim Tebow experiment in New York could back-fire in a big way as this team would easily implode if it hits a couple of rough patches in the road. We already saw what happened last season and this year is setting up to be worse. UNDER

Cincinnati Bengals 8

The Bengals have an exciting future with Andy Dalton at quarterback and AJ Green at wide receiver. They should be able to take Baltimore’s place as the second-best team in the AFC North. OVER

Kansas City Chiefs 8

Kansas City took a step backwards with a 7-9 record in 2011 after winning the AFC West in 2010 with 10 wins. If the Chiefs can avoid another slow start, they should challenge for the division title with nine wins. OVER

Buffalo Bills 7.5

The Bills are definitely heading in the right direction especially with the signing of defensive/outside linebacker Mario Williams from Houston. Buffalo will be competitive in every game it plays but it still only adds up to seven wins. UNDER

Miami Dolphins 7.5

It could be a steep learning curve for rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill this season which could actually result in a step backwards for Miami this season. This is shaping up as the team of the future in the AFC East but seven wins will be the max in 2012. UNDER

Oakland Raiders 7.5

There is enough talent on both sides of the ball for the Raiders to remain competitive in the AFC West all season long especially with quarterback Carson Palmer firmly in place in their offensive scheme. Oakland still comes up short in an effort to get back to the playoffs, but wins at least eight games. OVER

Tennessee Titans 7.5

The Titans went 9-7 last season but will most likely have to transition over to Jake Locker as their starting quarterback this season which could cost them a few games along the way. Flip last year’s numbers around for a 7-9 record. UNDER

Indianapolis Colts 5

Indianapolis not only cleaned house by getting rid of Peyton Manning, but by parting ways with a number of other veteran players that were also heavily responsible for the team’s string of double-digit wins. UNDER

Jacksonville Jaguars 5

This team could another complete reclamation project that may take s few seasons before it yields any solid results. You still have to question whether Blaine Gabbert is the answer at quarterback and their No.1 pick, wide receiver Justin Blackmon is already in trouble with the law. UNDER

Cleveland Browns 4.5

The Browns only won four games last season and enter this year with a rookie quarterback in Brandon Weedon battling a third-year veteran in Colt McCoy for the starting job. Running back Trent Richardson will carry the load on offense and Cleveland’s defense will do enough to win at least five games. OVER
