MLB Odds from Bookmaker
Moneyline: NY Mets (-137) LA Dodgers (+127)
Mets fans got their hopes up as the team surprised early in the season, but the team has really fallen hard and fast in the past couple weeks. New York has lost 8 of 10, and they are all the way back down to the .500 mark. The Dodgers have taken the first two games of this series from the Mets. Los Angeles has gotten healthy again, and their offense is starting to score runs as they did earlier in the year. Can the Mets get back over .500 or will the Dodgers pull off a sweep?
The Dodgers had the best record in baseball two months into the season, but injuries really slowed down their offense in the month of June. Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier are the team’s two best hitters, and both of them missed an extended period of time. Kemp has two hits in each of the team’s last three games, so it appears he is completely healthy again. When healthy, Kemp is definitely one of the best players in baseball. Overall, the Dodgers offense is averaging only 3.85 runs per game this season. With everyone in the lineup, they are a much better team than that average shows.
The primary reason the Dodgers have been successful this season has been their pitching staff. The Dodgers recently passed the Nationals for first place in the majors for lowest team ERA at 3.30. Los Angeles has gotten 60 quality starts from their starting rotation, which is the best mark in baseball. This is a pitching staff that has been extremely underrated this season.
The Mets have had a lot of trouble with their pitching staff of late. R.A. Dickey has been a great story this year, but the team even had to use him in relief in Saturday’s game. Dickey gave up a two-run homer in his only inning of relief. New York’s bullpen has been used far too much, so Manager Terry Collins decided to call in the knuckleballer. The Mets have the single worst bullpen ERA in all of baseball at 4.95. It’s tough to consistently win games with such a poor bullpen.
David Wright has been a one-man wrecking crew so far this year. Wright is hitting .346 with 14 homers and 66 RBI’s. The Mets have done a nice job hitting with runners in scoring position, which has allowed them to average 4.62 runs per game. The pitching staff is in real trouble right now, so it might be up to the offense to outslug opponents if they hope to get back in the playoff race.
MLB Free Pick: Over 8
Both of these offenses have been hitting it pretty well of late. The Mets bullpen situation is a complete mess, which means the Dodgers should put several on the board. Eovaldi isn’t the type of guy you’d expect to shut down the Mets lineup. Look for this one to go over the posted total.
