NFL Preseason Pick – Week 4
Game Overview
The bitter memory of last year’s loss to the Giants in the Super Bowl will still be front and center in this nfl matchup, but it will be up to the second and third teamers to try and avenge this loss since New England’s starters will be on the bench for this fourth and final preseason game. It comes in with a 1-2 record straight-up (0-3 against the spread) in its first three games after losing to Tampa Bay 30-28 as a seven-point road favorite last Friday night. The total has gone ‘over’ in the last two games.
Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick cannot be too thrilled with how his team has looked so far in the preseason with a number of turnovers, costly penalties, and all-around sloppy play. With quarterback Tom Brady on the sidelines for this game, it will be up to Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer to close things out on a positive note.
The defending champions are also 1-2 SU (2-1 ATS) after a 20-17 loss to Chicago last Friday as a three-point home favorite. The total has stayed ‘under’ in the last two games. Of greater concern than their record is the Giants’ current injury list. Their defensive line already lost Shaun Rogers for the season and has Chris Canty listed as questionable for the season opener against Dallas on Sept. 5. Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has missed the entire preseason and TE Travis Beckum is still recovering from knee surgery.
In limited action, quarterback Eli Manning has completed 28-of-43 attempts for 270 yards and one touchdowns, but it will be up to David Carr to try and engineer another victory over the Patriots on Wednesday night. He has completed just 51.4 percent of his passes in the first three games for a total of 207 yards and two TD’s. Overall, New York is ranked 22nd in the preseason in passing yards per game and 26th in average rushing yards.
Prediction:
Wednesday night should be as vanilla as it gets between two teams that have developed an intense rivalry over the past few seasons making it very hard to handicap this matchup, but if you are looking to play a side than stick with the home team to win and cover the three points. New York 23 New England 17
