NCAA Football – Week 2
It’s a battle in the Beehive State, and it should be a heck of a night for college football betting fanatics, as the Utah State Aggies look to pull off the upset of the Utah Utes.
Utah has taken a lot of steps in the right direction over the course of the last few years, and though it isn’t as dominating of a team now in the Pac-12 as it was in the Mountain West, it is clear that it is a program that is going to have the chance to win the Rose Bowl here in the next several years. QB Jordan Wynn has been around the team now for quite some time with varying degrees of success, but this is the year in which he really should shine. He got off to a good start last week, throwing for 200 yards and two TDs, albeit against an FCS team. Wynn has a great back in the backfield in RB John White IV, whom some think could be a longshot Heisman Trophy candidate this year as well. The questions are with this defense. Yes, the unit looked great last week, but in the end, it is a side that is going to give up some points, especially against the brass of the Pac-12. This is going to be a very interesting litmus test against a hungry Utah State team with a heck of a lot of talent.
The Aggies have been dying to become a lot more like their brethren from up the road in Salt Lake City, but alas, they haven’t been able to put much of anything together. Their poster child from last year’s team, RB Robert Turbin is now in the NFL, and that leaves a massive hole at running back. The good news is that QB Chuckie Keeton now has a year under his belt, and he really looks like he is going to be the man that guides this team in the right direction for the next three years. Keeton threw for 304 yards and averaged over 11 yards per pass attempt in USU’s win over Southern Utah last week. Again, we know that we have to be tempered because that came against an FCS team, but any time that you can complete 22-of-26 passing, you have truly done something special.
Prediction:
The Utes have absolutely dominated this series, and they always have. Many are calling for the upset on Friday night, as Utah State figures to be able to step it up and become a bowl team either this year or next. We just don’t know, though. There’s a reason that Utah is favored, and the point spread has gone up over the course of the last few days. Experience is still on the side of the Utes, and with such a dominating history between these two, we have no choice but to go with the visitors even though times might have changed just a bit since the last time these clubs met in 2009. Utah 41 – Utah State 28
