Arch rivals continue their series at Fenway Park on Wednesday night in MLB betting action, as the New York Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox.

Be ever so careful, New York. This series is clearly of utmost importance to the Sox, and it showed last night when the latter was able to come up with a big time win to knock the Bronx Bombers back into a tie for first place in the AL East. This should be an interesting game for David Phelps, as he tries to get back in a groove as a starter. The righty out of Notre Dame just hasn’t pitched well as a starter in these last five starts. He does have a win to show for his work, but he also has an ERA around a touchdown in those outings and has been wildly inconsistent. So yes, for the season, it looks great that Phelps has a 3.55 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 78.2 innings of work. However, we have to remember that a lot of that came as a reliever, not as a starter, and he is going to really need to figure out how to stretch out his arm further than his career best 6.2 innings of work to get back into the win column for just the fourth time this year.

Give the Red Sox this much: At least they’re trying against the Yankees. They’ve got a bad pitching matchup in this one though, as Aaron Cook really shouldn’t be pitching at the big league level at this point in his career. He has always been a lifetime junk baller, and now that he is almost 34 years old, he can’t even strike out batters at any rate. Cook has just 16 strikeouts against 15 walks on the campaign, and that has all come in 76.2 innings of work. He has just a 3-9 mark this year and one win since the All-Star Break, and that isn’t going to cut it, especially when you’re talking about this being the de facto Pawtucket Red Sox with a few players from the big league club sprinkled in.

Prediction

Cook is just a wreck, and we, under no circumstance, can back him at this point. That being said, we guess that we have no choice but to go with the Yankees, who at least have the better and more efficient bullpen to deal with when these two starters are both out of the game, something that we think will happen within the first six innings for each.
