NCAA Football – Week 3
The 2012 Big East season kicks off for college football betting fans on Thursday night from the Sunshine State, where the South Florida Bulls take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The Scarlet Knights really haven’t showed all that much yet, because they haven’t played all that much of a schedule. They weren’t exactly the most dominating team in the world against either the Tulane Green Wave or the Howard Bison, and neither one of those foes are exactly the cream of the crop on the team’s schedule. That being said, it has been a transition for sure now that Greg Schiano is no longer with the team. The defensive intensity is still there, but the offense just isn’t. QB Gary Nova isn’t one of the best five quarterbacks in the Big East (and that’s saying something, knowing just how bad the Big East really is), and he has only been asked to throw 47 passes in two games. He’ll need to put it in the air a lot more than that this week though, because he is going to be need a more well-rounded attack with RBs Jawan Jamison and Savon Huggins.
South Florida feels like a team that should have made its way to the BCS at some point over the course of the last decade or so, but it just has never happened, at least as of yet. Head Coach Skip Holtz knows that this is a great opponent to gain some ground in the conference on, especially here at Raymond James Stadium. QB BJ Daniels is now in this third year guiding this team, and he looks like he is going to be a real leader this year after taking the team to a ‘W’ over the Nevada Wolf Pack on the road last week. We still have to remember that this is a team that wants to run the ball and play good defense, and unless the club can find a runner that is going to help this team get more than 147 yards per game on the ground, it just won’t be able to live up to its own game plan. Daniels has been involved in a whopping 83 plays thus far in two games, and there have only been a total of 47 runs that have been by players aside from Daniels.
Prediction:
South Florida was able to post a big time comeback last week, but this is a bad spot to be in. The team had to travel all the way back from Reno to Tampa Bay, and now, it has a short week to prepare for a Rutgers team that basically plays the same style of game that it does. Nova isn’t going to be able to put up enough points to win this game, as we think that the experience of Daniels will lead the way in the end, but we think that it is going to be another very close encounter. South Florida 26 – Rutgers 20
