AFC Top Three Matchups-Week 3 Handicapping Report
AFC Top Three Matchups-Week 3
Things are already off to a crazy start in the NFL with just a handful teams still undefeated after the first two weeks. Week 3 features a couple of crucial early-season showdowns that could end up having an impact on the overall playoff picture way down the road. The following is a handicapping report for the top three matchups in the AFC this week with lines provided by BetDSI.
New York Jets (-3) vs. Miami Dolphins Total Line: 40
New York’s rein as one of the offensive juggernauts in the NFL did not last long after managing just one touchdown in a 27-10 loss to Pittsburgh this past Sunday as a 5.5-point road underdog. This was after pinning 48 points on Buffalo a week earlier in its season opener.
Miami showed some signs of life in Week 2 after a dismal 30-10 loss to Houston as a 13-point road underdog in its season opener. The Dolphins, behind rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill, scored 28 second-half points to beat Oakland 35-13 as one-point home underdogs.
The Jets are now just 1-4 both straight-up and against the spread in their last five games. The total has gone OVER in 16 of their last 21 games on the road. Miami has won five of its last six games at home SU with the total staying UNDER in six of its last eight home games. Head-to-head, the Dolphins have won five of the last seven meetings overall, but they are 2-4 SU in the last six meetings at home.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-3) vs. Oakland Raiders Total Line: 43
Pittsburgh did not look so good in its 31-19 loss to Denver on opening day as a 2.5-point road underdog, but quickly righted the ship with an impressive win over the Jets. Health concerns are still a major issue for this team with a number of key personnel on both sides of the ball still on the weekly injury reports.
Oakland has been plagued with another slow start with losses to San Diego and Miami by a combined score of 57-27. The offense has sputtered behind veteran signal-caller Carson Palmer and the defense has been nowhere to be seen in the first two games.
The Steelers are 11-4 SU in their last 15 games but 2-5 ATS in their last seven. The total has gone OVER in eight of their last 12 games on the road. The Raiders are 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five home games.
New England Patriots vs. Baltimore Ravens (-3) Total Line: 48.5
One of the teams in this matchup is now guaranteed to start the season 1-2 after New England’s shocking 20-18 loss to Arizona last Sunday as a 13.5-point favorite. Tom Brady completed just over 60 percent of his passes and was sacked four times in the loss.
The Ravens followed-up their impressive season debut against Cincinnati on Monday Night Football with 24-23 loss to Philadelphia in a game they led by six points late in the fourth quarter. The vaunted Baltimore defense was torched for close to 500 yards of total offense and the team lost the time of possession battle by nearly nine minutes.
The Patriots have won 11 of their last 13 road games SU and are 8-1 SU in their last nine games against Baltimore. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five games on the road. The Ravens are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games against New England.
